Yumi Ito (伊藤由美, Itō Yumi) was a dedicated Japanese witch and a Mahoutokoro student during the early 21st century. She was friendly and had strong empathy.

Biography

In the 2011–2012 school year, Yumi visited Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry to represent her school in the Intercontinental Wizard's Cup along with Hanae Katō, Kenji Kobayashi, Tarōbō Amachi, and two other members. During this event, she competed against at least three students from Ilvermorny School of Witchcraft and Wizardry: Violet Williams, Viggo Victor, and Zack Johnson. Yumi was the Mahoutokoro captain. According to Violet Williams, she was "totally their best".

During the barbecue picnic on the Saturday after the first challenge (in which Mahoutokoro, her team, had won first place), her fellow Mahoutokoro champion Kenji's drink was laced (by Viggo Victor) with something that aggravated his blood malediction and turned him into a humanoid fox, Yumi attempted to comfort him, but was attacked and scratched.

Later, the uninvited writer Rita Skeeter showed up with her Quick-Quotes Quill to interview each competitor, including Yumi, for the Daily Prophet and overheard the discussion about Kenji and his blood curse. During the interview, Rita intentionally referenced the curse indirectly, but Yumi intervened and salvaged the situation before Rita's outrageous questions could proceed further. Since the event, news about Kenji's blood curse had spread further, and Kenji started considering resigning from the team.

After the second challenge, in which her team came third, Yumi asked Kevin Farrell and another Hogwarts student to persuade Kenji not to resign. The two succeeded, much to Yumi's relief. Moments later, Hanae Katō entered the corridor and confessed her fear of Kenji and his blood curse. Yumi joined the conversation between Kenji and Hanae and managed to help Hanae trust in Kenji and his control over the curse. However, Yumi, feeling conflicted, admitted she still had to remain neutral between those who supported Kenji and those who didn't accept him and his curse, as misunderstanding and trust issues could bring great disunity to the team.

Physical description

Yumi had a white oval-shaped face, a sharp chin, a small nose, and dark brown hair with strands in the colours yellow and red. Her eyes were grey, and her lips were reddish purple.

Personality and traits

Yumi was described as strong-willed, confident, compassionate, and friendly. She wanted to make friends from another school; therefore, she took supplementary English classes at Mahoutokoro.

Yumi was a very dedicated captain. When Kenji Kobayashi panicked due to his unintended transformation, she rushed to comfort him and was even attacked by him, but she still keep her protective attitude towards him. She tried to remind Tarōbō Amachi, who was disgusted with Kenji, that he was one of the best in his class and said she believed in him. When the Daily Prophet reporter Rita Skeeter tried to ask him a question about the blood curse, Yumi interrupted and confronted her.
