- "A spiralling gust of wind is emitted from the end of the wand."
- — Description[src]
The Windy Spell[2][4][5] (Ventus)[1] was a charm[2] which shot a jet of strong, spiralling wind from the tip of the wand.[1]
Effects[]
This cyclone was able to blow away heavy objects or even people.[3] The wind could also entrap people, preventing them from leaving due to the violent wind speed.[1][6]
Ventus Duo and Ventus Tria were stronger versions of this spell, creating far more violent gusts of wind.[7]
History[]
In London in 1927, Newt Scamander used this spell to shake off Stebbins, an Auror whom the Ministry of Magic had sent to tail him. The spell was strong enough to first stop him in his tracks before blowing him backwards in the opposite direction, much to the bemusement of passing Muggles, who were not affected by it whatsoever and were unable to explain such a strange phenomenon. This allowed Newt to carry on with his duties without being intrusively spied on by the Ministry.[1]
During the 2008–2009 school year, Cassandra Vole used this spell in the Duelling Club.[8]
During the 2010–2011 school year, a student used this spell in the Hogwarts Library to clear out the fog conjured by Colby Frey's Fogging Spell before it could damage the books.[9]
Known practitioners[]
Etymology[]
Ventus is a Latin word, meaning "wind".
Behind the scenes[]
- Despite the wand movement being a "V-shape", Newt Scamander, in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, points his wand upward and twirls it upright to create the windy effect of this spell, mimicking a tornado's shape and spinning motion.
